Engagement model

Fixed Price Development

Fixed price development sets an agreed price for defined deliverables under stated assumptions, responsibilities and acceptance criteria. It works when the outcome and boundaries are stable enough to estimate and when dependencies can be controlled. The model provides commercial predictability for the agreed scope, but changes, delayed inputs and newly discovered conditions still require a documented decision.

01

How the model works

Renvric estimates a defined package of work against requirements, quality expectations, delivery approach and known dependencies. The proposal states what is included, excluded and assumed, along with milestones and acceptance. Delivery can remain iterative, but the commercial baseline changes only through the agreed process.

Projects this model suits

Requirements and completion criteria are sufficiently stable and testable.

External systems, data, access and client inputs are understood and controllable.

The buyer values price certainty for a bounded result more than ongoing priority flexibility.

Both parties can make timely decisions and operate a formal change process.

03

When to choose another model

Avoid fixed price when the work exists mainly to learn what should be built, when a legacy environment has major unknowns, or when priorities are expected to change continuously. Contingency does not remove uncertainty; it increases the price or narrows the commitment. A discovery phase or time-and-materials stage may produce a more credible basis.

04

Team structure

Renvric selects and manages the team required to deliver the defined scope. The client should focus on decisions, access, feedback and acceptance rather than directing daily individual assignments. Role changes within Renvric’s delivery approach do not change the outcome commitment unless the contract says otherwise.

Responsibilities

01

Client

Supplies the agreed inputs, decisions, environments or access and completes reviews and acceptance within stated windows.

02

Renvric

Delivers the specified outputs for the agreed price subject to the documented assumptions and dependencies.

03

Shared

Maintains decisions, risks, issue resolution, change control and release readiness.

06

Commercial basis

The contract needs a precise scope, price, tax and currency basis, payment milestones, acceptance method, warranty, assumptions, exclusions, dependency treatment and change rates or mechanism. A headline fixed price without these terms is not meaningful. Regional pages should not publish sample prices unless commercial and legal owners approve them.

07

Governance and reporting

Use scheduled demonstrations and status reviews to expose progress and risk early. A decision log and dependency tracker help protect the baseline. Milestone invoicing should correspond to defined deliverables or acceptance events rather than vague percentages of effort.

08

Quality and acceptance

Acceptance criteria need observable results, including relevant performance, security, compatibility, data or operational requirements. Testing responsibilities and environments should be explicit. A fixed price does not justify reducing quality to preserve margin; it requires clearer quality definition before commitment.

09

Priority and scope changes

A change request should record the desired change and its impact on price, time, risk and existing work. No material change proceeds until the authorised parties approve the treatment. Where several small changes accumulate, the team should review whether the commercial model still fits.

10

Continuity and handover

Deliverables, source access, documentation, known limitations, training inputs, deployment and support transition should be part of the fixed scope. Final acceptance should not depend on handover items that were never defined.

Common questions

A defined outcome, requirements, quality expectations, dependencies, client inputs, delivery constraints and testable acceptance criteria.

Delivery can be iterative, but the commercial scope still needs stable boundaries. Backlog flexibility must operate within those boundaries or through change control.

The team assesses the impact and the authorised parties approve a change to scope, price, time or another part of the baseline.

Only the commitments and conditions written in the contract apply. Client inputs, third parties and approved changes may affect schedule treatment.

A bounded discovery with defined outputs can often be priced as a fixed engagement, even when its findings determine a later build.

Discuss the right delivery model

01

Share the desired outcome, current team, known scope, decision structure, timing, budget context and procurement constraints. Renvric can recommend a model or a short discovery step without treating an early conversation as a binding estimate.
