Project Handover
A handover succeeds when the receiving team can run, change and support the system without calling the builders. Renvric plans handover from the start of a project: working knowledge, access, documentation and a supervised period of shared operation, closed by a written acceptance.
Start your project
Handover is a deliverable, not a farewell
Projects often end with a rush: the last features ship, the team disbands and the client discovers what nobody wrote down. Renvric treats handover as a planned piece of work with its own criteria, owner and time, so that the system moves to its new custodians in a known, tested state.
What is handed over
Source and assets
Repositories with full history, design files, build scripts and any generated artefacts, transferred into accounts the client controls.
Environments and access
Cloud accounts, domains, certificates, third-party service accounts and credentials, moved to named client owners.
Documentation
Architecture overview, decision records, runbooks, setup guide and user guides, checked against the real system.
Operational knowledge
Monitoring, alerts, backup and restore routines, scheduled jobs and known issues.
Backlog and risks
Open items, deferred ideas, technical debt and risks, with recommendations.
Readiness checklist
- Every credential and account is listed, owned by a named client person and removed from personal Renvric accounts.
- A new engineer has built and deployed the system from the documentation alone.
- A restore from backup has been performed and timed.
- Open defects are triaged, with agreed ones fixed and the rest accepted in writing.
- Third-party licences and subscriptions are in the client's name or have a stated renewal owner.
- Support arrangements after handover are agreed, whether in-house, with Renvric or with another supplier.
Share the outcome you need and Renvric will recommend the smallest useful next step.
How the transition runs
Knowledge transfer uses working sessions rather than slide presentations: the receiving engineers make changes with the Renvric team watching, then lead while the team observes. Consider an internal team inheriting a customer portal. They deploy a minor change, handle a simulated incident from the runbook and review a recent architecture decision, so confidence rests on practice.
A shadow period follows, during which the client team operates the system and Renvric answers questions and reviews changes.
Roles
- The client names a receiving owner with authority to accept, and engineers who will take over day-to-day.
- The Renvric delivery lead plans the transition and tracks the checklist.
- The Renvric technical lead leads architecture and operational walkthroughs.
- Security contacts confirm credentials are rotated and access is removed from departing accounts.
Acceptance and closure
Handover is complete when the client signs an acceptance that references the checklist, lists exceptions and records the date responsibility moves. Rotating credentials, closing temporary accounts and archiving project records are the final steps. Warranty or defect-correction terms, where they apply, are set out in the contract.

Common questions
Who is project handover for?
Clients whose in-house team, another supplier or a support provider will take over a system after delivery. It also matters to sponsors who want reassurance that they will not depend on the original builders for basic operation.
What does the client need to prepare?
A named receiving team and owner, accounts and environments the system will be transferred into, availability of engineers for working sessions, and any policies on access, training or sign-off. Early identification of the receiving team makes transfer much smoother.
Will we own the code and documentation?
Ownership terms are set out in the agreement. Our working practice is to keep code, documentation and infrastructure definitions in repositories and accounts you control throughout, so handover is a confirmation of existing ownership rather than a late extraction.
What if problems appear after handover?
Defects found during any warranty or agreed support period are handled under the terms of your contract. Anything else can be addressed through an agreed support arrangement or a scoped piece of work, and the handover record tells everyone what was known at the time.
Who can answer a related question?
Email info@renvric.com. Handover planning questions go to a delivery lead, and questions about the technical content of knowledge transfer go to a technical lead. Please say who will receive the system and whether they have worked with the technology before, so the transfer can be planned around their experience.
Keep exploring
Ask for handover requirements while negotiating scope: who will own the system, what skills they have, and whether they need training. The earlier it is planned, the less it costs and the better it works.
