Appian Services

Renvric helps organisations decide where Appian belongs and then build and run it: process automation, case management, records and data fabric, interfaces and integrations with the systems around them. Work comes as consulting, implementation or specialist staffing, with design decisions and governance rules written down before the first process goes live.

01

What Appian is used for

Appian is a low-code platform built around processes. Organisations typically use it where work passes between people, systems and teams under rules: onboarding, claims, applications, approvals, investigations, service requests. Instead of replacing the systems that hold master data, Appian often sits above them, coordinating tasks, deadlines and decisions and giving users a single working surface.

This makes it a different proposition from a CRM or ERP. The question is rarely which module to switch on, and more often which process deserves automation and how the platform will be governed as applications multiply.

The platform in components

01

Process automation

Process models orchestrate human tasks and system steps through smart services, with rules, escalations and timers.

02

Case management

Long-running cases with changing tasks, documents, notes and audit history, suited to work that does not follow one fixed path.

03

Data fabric

Records and record types present data from several sources, including synced copies, to interfaces and reports without moving everything into one database.

04

Interfaces and portals

Forms and dashboards defined in Appian's expression language, with portals for people outside the organisation.

05

Integrations

Connected systems, integration objects and web APIs link Appian to core systems, document stores and identity services.

06

Automation extras

Robotic process automation and AI services may extend the platform; confirm current capabilities and terms with the vendor.

03

Where Appian fits and where it does not

  • Work is process-heavy, rule-driven and spans several departments or systems.
  • Audit trails, deadlines and clear task ownership matter to the organisation or its regulator.
  • There are several processes on the roadmap, so a shared platform and standards will pay back.
  • It is less suitable for a single simple form, where a lighter tool is cheaper to run.
  • It is also a poor choice for highly pixel-specific consumer applications or analytics-led products.
  • Licensing is a material factor; ask the vendor for current terms against your user and application plans.

How Renvric approaches an Appian engagement

Select the process

Choose the first process by value, clarity and risk, not by enthusiasm.

Model the work

Describe cases, tasks, roles, rules and exceptions with the people who do the work.

Design the data

Decide record types, sources of truth and what is synced or queried live.

Build and review

Build in short iterations on a development environment with design and code review.

Deploy and govern

Promote through environments with release notes and agree ownership of each application.

05

Engagement shapes

A first process is commonly delivered as project-based development, because acceptance criteria are easiest to write for a bounded outcome. Once a portfolio grows, a dedicated development team keeps knowledge in one place. Individual developers or architects can join your own team via staff augmentation, and time and materials suits discovery where the process is not yet understood. The trade-offs are compared in engagement models.

06

Typical risks on Appian programmes

  • Automating a poorly understood process, which fixes speed but not the underlying problem.
  • No centre of excellence, so each team builds its own patterns and objects.
  • Data design left late, producing slow interfaces and inconsistent records.
  • Heavy reuse of copied process models, which multiplies maintenance.
  • Integrations with core systems that lack stable APIs or test environments.
  • Users not involved until user acceptance testing, so adoption disappoints.

Common questions

Renvric provides consulting to select processes and design architecture, implementation to build, integrate, test and release Appian applications, and staffing to supply Appian developers, designers and architects. We also help with integrations, upgrades and migrations, and support for live applications. Every engagement has written scope and acceptance criteria.

Consider whether the work is process-led, how many processes are planned, the audit and deadline needs, your integration landscape and the skills available. Appian suits cross-department, rule-driven processes. For data-centric apps or customer-facing CRM, other platforms may fit better. An assessment can compare options against your processes.

Yes. We typically start by reviewing the applications, object naming, data design, integrations and release process, then agree improvements and a support arrangement. Support can be project-based, retained or provided through named specialists inside your team, with service levels set per contract.

Staffing is matched to the work: a solution architect for design, developers for interfaces, process and integrations, and a business analyst or tester where needed. People are assessed against the role, you approve them, and they work to your backlog under a project, dedicated team or augmentation model.

It starts with a conversation about the process you want to improve, followed by a short discovery to confirm the work, the systems involved and the success measures. We then give you a written scope, an outline plan and the main risks. You decide whether to proceed.

Consulting, implementation or staffing

01

Choose Appian consulting to decide whether and where to use the platform, Appian implementation to build and release a defined application, and Appian staffing to add developers or architects to your team. The enterprise platforms overview explains how Appian compares with other approaches.
