Microsoft Consulting
Microsoft consulting from Renvric gives you licensing-aware advice before you build: which Dynamics 365 applications, Power Platform tools or Azure services suit the problem, how to structure the tenant and environments, and who governs what. You receive a written architecture, roadmap and decision record, not a slide deck of options.

Why advice matters more in a Microsoft estate
Microsoft products overlap by design. A request-and-approve process could be a SharePoint list with a flow, a Power App on Dataverse, a Dynamics 365 case or a custom Azure application. Each can work, but they differ in cost, support burden and risk of sprawl. Consulting exists to choose deliberately and record why, so that the next team inherits a reasoned decision rather than a surprise.
What a Microsoft assessment looks at
Tenant and identity
Microsoft Entra ID configuration, guest access, administrator roles, conditional access and how service accounts are handled.
Environment strategy
Separation of development, test and production environments, and which solutions belong in which environment.
Data model and Dataverse
Whether Dataverse, SQL, SharePoint lists or an external system is the right home for each dataset, and the security model that goes with it.
Application fit
Where standard Dynamics 365 processes fit and where extension or a custom app is justified.
Licensing posture
Which user and capacity licences the design appears to need, expressed as questions to verify with Microsoft or your reseller.
Governance
Maker policy, data loss prevention, naming, ownership, review and retirement of apps and flows.
When consulting is the right purchase
- You are choosing between Dynamics 365 modules, or between Dynamics 365 and a different CRM or ERP.
- A Power Platform estate has grown without owners and needs a clean-up plan.
- A move from file shares or on-premises SharePoint to SharePoint Online and Teams needs a permissions model.
- Azure adoption is starting and you need a landing-zone approach before teams deploy workloads.
- Auditors or security teams have asked questions about low-code controls.
- The scope is already decided and only delivery capacity is missing; in that case, implementation or staffing is a better fit.
Share the outcome you need and Renvric will recommend the smallest useful next step.
How the work runs
A typical engagement starts with admin-level read access and stakeholder interviews, runs two to four weeks of discovery in which we inventory what exists and talk to the people who use it, and ends with working sessions where draft recommendations are challenged. Findings are shared early, so nobody reads the final document for the first time on delivery day.
Deliverables you receive
- Tenant and environment map with owners and risk ratings.
- Target architecture covering identity, data, integration and monitoring.
- Governance model with roles, policies and a review rhythm.
- Fit-gap register for the chosen Dynamics 365 or Power Platform scope.
- Licensing questions list for confirmation with Microsoft.
- Phased roadmap with dependencies, risks and decision owners.
Trade-offs worth discussing openly
Low-code speeds delivery, but each app is something that someone must support. Dataverse gives rich security and relationships, but it is licensed and managed differently from a simple list. A single large tenant simplifies identity yet concentrates risk, and multiple tenants isolate it at the cost of administration. Azure offers control but asks for engineering discipline. We lay these out against your priorities rather than recommending a stack by default.
An example question
For example, an HR team asks for an onboarding tracker. Consulting might conclude that a Power Apps front end on Dataverse, with Power Automate approvals and a Power BI view, is proportionate, and that anything touching payroll should integrate with the existing HR system instead of copying data. That conclusion, along with the alternatives rejected, goes into the decision log.
Common questions
What does Microsoft consulting include?
It includes tenant and identity review, environment strategy, data model and Dataverse design, Dynamics 365 or Power Platform fit-gap, integration and Azure architecture, governance policy, licensing questions to confirm with Microsoft, and a phased roadmap. The scope is agreed in writing and can be limited to a single decision.
How do you assess whether Microsoft fits our needs?
We test your processes against standard Dynamics 365 and Power Platform capability, review what already runs on Microsoft 365, and weigh integration effort, licensing implications and governance load. Fit means most of the process works with configuration, the extensions are justifiable, and someone in your organisation will own the result.
What do we receive at the end of a Microsoft consulting engagement?
You receive a tenant and environment map, a target architecture, governance model, fit-gap register, licensing questions list, roadmap and decision log. They are written for your leadership and technical teams, and you can use them with any delivery partner. We also walk stakeholders through the findings.
What affects the cost of Microsoft consulting?
The main drivers are the number of environments, apps, flows and integrations to review, how many business areas are in scope, the quality of existing documentation, the number of stakeholders involved and whether Azure or security review is included. A short discovery usually allows a scoped estimate.
Can consulting lead into implementation?
Yes, and the deliverables are designed to make that easy. The fit-gap register and roadmap become the opening scope for delivery. They are also standalone, so you may take them to another supplier or build the next phase with your own team.
More services to explore
Useful inputs are a list of current Microsoft licences, a tenant administrator contact, a rough inventory of apps and integrations, and the decisions you must make this year. The advice here connects to Microsoft implementation when you want a delivery partner, but the documents are yours to use with anyone. More context is on the Microsoft services overview.
