Mendix Consulting

Independent Mendix consulting that answers the questions to settle before building: whether low-code is the right tool, how the domain model and integrations should be shaped, and who governs the applications afterwards. You receive written findings, an architecture and a prioritised roadmap, not a sales pitch.

01

Questions consulting should settle

Most Mendix problems that appear in year two were decisions that nobody made in month one. Consulting exists to make them deliberately: which processes belong on the platform, how the data is organised, how applications talk to surrounding systems, and who is accountable for each application once it is live.

The work is advisory and independent of any implementation commitment. You can take the findings to your own team or another supplier.

02

When it is worth doing, and when it is not

  • Worth doing before a first large Mendix programme, when the cost of a wrong platform or architecture choice is high.
  • Worth doing when several teams already build on Mendix and standards, ownership or cost have become unclear.
  • Worth doing when an inherited application is slow or hard to change and you need a diagnosis before spending on fixes.
  • Less useful when the use case is small, the team is experienced and a working prototype would answer the question faster.
  • Not a substitute for implementation: if requirements are already clear, a project-based build may be the better first step.

How the assessment runs

01

Frame the decision

Agree the outcomes, constraints and decision-makers, and write down the criteria that will decide the recommendation.

02

Review the landscape

Map the target processes, data sources, existing platforms and users, including security and compliance obligations you identify.

03

Test the hard parts

Model a representative slice in Studio Pro, such as a domain model fragment and one integration, to expose problems early.

04

Compare options

Weigh Mendix against packaged products and other approaches against your criteria, including skills and licensing.

05

Write it up

Deliver findings, architecture and roadmap, then walk your stakeholders through them and record open questions.

What you receive

01

Fit assessment

A reasoned recommendation per use case: proceed, proceed with conditions, or choose another route.

02

Reference architecture

Application layering, module boundaries, integration patterns using REST, OData or messaging, and environment strategy.

03

Domain model guidance

Principles and a worked example for entities, associations, security rules and data volumes.

04

Governance model

Naming and review standards, Marketplace module policy, release process and ownership of each application.

05

Roadmap

A sequenced plan with dependencies, risks and the decisions still to be taken.

05

Architecture decisions that carry weight

Three choices recur. First, whether to build one larger application or several smaller ones; shared data across applications usually argues for care about coupling. Second, where business rules live: in microflows, in the back-end system, or in a rules service. Third, how much custom Java and how many pluggable widgets to allow, since each adds skills the team must keep.

We lay out the trade-offs and recommend, so the choice is yours and the reasoning is on record.

06

Licensing and edition guidance

Mendix licensing depends on factors such as application count, user types and environments, and the terms change over time. We help you model usage scenarios and ask the vendor the right questions, but we do not quote prices or interpret contracts on the vendor's behalf. Confirm current terms with the vendor.

07

A worked scenario

For example, a manufacturer with eight departmental spreadsheets asks whether Mendix can replace them. A consulting engagement might show that three suit a shared Mendix application, two are better handled by existing ERP functions, and three are not worth replacing yet. The roadmap then orders the three by value and risk.

Common questions

It typically includes a fit assessment, a reference architecture, domain model guidance, a governance model and a roadmap. We also model a small slice of your real problem in Studio Pro to test assumptions. The scope is written down before work starts, and you can choose a lighter or deeper version depending on the decision you face.

We score each use case against criteria you agree: process variability, integration complexity, user numbers, interface needs, team skills, licensing model and long-term ownership. We then test the riskiest assumptions with a small build. The outcome may well be that part of the scope should not use Mendix.

A written report with the recommendation and its reasoning, a reference architecture, governance standards, a sequenced roadmap and a list of risks and open decisions. We present it to your stakeholders and answer questions. The documents belong to you and can be used with any delivery team.

Mainly the number of use cases, the number of systems involved, how much prototyping is needed, the level of governance detail required and how many stakeholders must be consulted. A narrow fit check costs less than a programme-wide architecture and roadmap. We agree the scope and estimate before starting.

Yes, and the deliverables are designed so that it can. Because the architecture, backlog outline and standards are written down, you can start a project-based build with Renvric, hand them to your own team, or tender them to others. There is no obligation to continue with us.

If the findings favour building, they feed directly into Mendix implementation, or you can review the wider Mendix services. Bring your process descriptions, system list and any current application access.
